Our Mission
“We’re the solution, not the pollution.”
Our mission at TaterWare is to provide both a functional and environmentally-safe alternative to petroleum-based plastics in the food service sector and to do it with as light a carbon footprint as possible. In addition, we will continue to actively participate in building a new era of bioplastic technology, along with accompanying closed-loop programs to regenerate these bioplastics in responsible and sustainable ways.
Letter from the President . . .
My name is Kevin Duffy and I am the President of Biodegradable Food Service, the company that manufactures and markets TaterWare and Earth Cup products.
When I invented the TaterWare compound in 2003 here in Central Oregon, I had several goals in mind to create a material that was made up of primarily bio-based ingredients . . . that could withstand the requirements of most food service applications . . . that could biodegrade . . . and that could be marketed as a “green” sustainable line of products made with renewable resources. Throughout the years of rigorous testing and reformulation of the compound, I believe we have achieved these goals; however, we are not content to rest on our laurels. Since the introduction of higher-grade co-polymers into the market, bioplastics technology has made sudden and substantial leaps forward, so we continue to research and develop resins that maintain or exceed the high performance of our products, while adding broader environmental benefits.
Primarily, all TaterWare products are made with renewable resources and bio-based ingredients. Our product line is rigid, functional, and can withstand food temperatures both chilled and heated. Some of our TaterWare product is currently being composted in commercial compost facilities. Our Bio Source-patented formula creates a product line that is made with GM-free potato starch, calcium carbonate, and a polymer, which are all FDA-approved for safe food contact.
Our marketing slogan is “We’re the solution, not the pollution.” In the interest of global responsibility, our customers can feel confident that whether TaterWare ends up in compost, recyclables, or even a landfill, they are supporting a product that uses natural plant material which limits the use of finite resources. Furthermore, our closed loop cutlery recycle program pioneers new options to the current and common waste stream paths. Of these achievements, we are very proud.
Sincerely,
Kevin Duffy
